Who benefits from the fund?

Protected areas and the organizations that manage them are the primary beneficiaries of the fund. The funds are granted to conservation agencies to carry out various programs that aid in the conservation, protection, promotion and sustainable development of these areas.

What is PACT?

The Protected Areas Conservation Trust is Belize's only national conservation trust fund whose monies are re-invested into protected areas and natural resource management.

What is PACT's Mission?

The Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) is a fund dedicated to the promotion, sustainable management and development of Belize's protected areas with a view to improve the quality of life of Belizeans.

When was it established?

The Trust fund was established in 1995 by the Protected Areas Conservation Trust Act, No. 15/1995.

Where does the fund get its revenues?

The fund is primarily financed from the collection of a conservation fee of BZ$7.50 paid in by visitors to the country upon their departure. The Trust also collects 20% commission of the cruise ship passenger head tax.

The Trust can also collect 20% commission of all recreation related license fees and concession fees on protected areas. In addition to these, the Trust also welcomes and encourages donations by individuals and corporations both locally and internationally.
