BNCF Awards over $77K in Grants to Terrestrial Protected Areas Managers
February 27, 2024 — (Belmopan, BZE) The Belize Nature Conservation Foundation (BNCF) hosted their annual award ceremony acknowledging the awardees of the 2023 BNCF Grant Cycle. The event was held on February 26th at the Guanacaste National Park in Belmopan, and saw the official awarding of BZ$77,977.54 between two registered protected areas co-management organizations.
This year’s recipients include The Belize Karst Habitat Conservation (BKHC), who received $38,977.54 (Full Funding) for their project “Enhancing the capacity of Belize Karst Habitat Conservation for the implementation of a Water Quality Research”. The Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary (MBWS) is also a recipient this year and have been awarded $39,000 (full funding) for their project Sustaining the Integrity of the Monkey Bay National Park through Improved Resource management”.
Every year BNCF awards grants to recipients whose projects are directed to key areas such as protected areas management, training, and research. The Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) serve as the administrators of the BNCF’s endowment and operational funds. As the administrator of BNCF’S endowment funds, PACT congratulates the awardees and look forward to the positive environmental outcomes which the BNCF’s grants will contribute towards.

PACT was formally established in January 1996 with the passing of the Protected Areas Conservation Trust Act, No. 15 of 1995, creating the institution as a Statutory Board. PACT contributes to the effective management of Belize’s National Protected Areas System (NPAS) through strategic partnerships and high impact investments. The PACT is managed by a Board of Directors that is comprised of Government agencies, non-government organizations and individual experts.
