Background:
The Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) is a statutory organization established in 1996 as a Trust Fund under the Protected Areas Conservation Trust Act, No.15 of 1995. PACT contributes to the financing, sourced nationally and internationally, of the Belize National Protected Areas System – a system that is managed by Government Agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations, and Community Based Organizations.
Position Description:
The Conservation Investment Manager (CIM) position is to lead the Conservation Investment Department which is PACT’s core programmatic department and is responsible for (i) identifying and developing investment initiatives with conservation partners and eligible investors for sustainably managing the Belize National Protected Areas System (BNPAS), (ii) providing overall managerial leadership and oversight for PACT’s Investment Programme and (iii) researching and developing a sustainable development-based strategy and policy framework for the planning and execution of PACT’s mandate to have the BNPAS contribute significantly to environmental conservation and national development in Belize. This position will ensure that BNPAS investments, PACT’s investment programme results and outcomes, and the sustainable development and protected areas policy frameworks are in alignment. The CIM will work closely with relevant personnel in developing investment portfolios thereby ensuring that budgetary, financial viability and wider strategic management considerations are taken into account. The post is also responsible for developing partner engagement strategies and advocacy related programs enabling PACT to work collaboratively with public sector, civil society partners and private sector investors and business support membership networks. This will require working closely with the Executive Director on highly effective communication strategies and campaigns. The position reports directly to the Executive Director and is a member of the management team.
Core Competency Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Natural Resources Management, Sustainable Development, Environmental Studies, or Environmental Economics. Other related Social Science and Natural Science fields will be considered.
- Project management certification is preferred
- Ten (10) or more years of experience working in the sustainable development and/or environmental conservation field
- Five (5) years involved in designing or managing sustainable development and/or conservation projects particularly in protected areas
- Experience and/or substantive involvement in formulating and/or assessing sustainable development policies broadly including conservation, natural resources management, protected areas management and community development in buffer communities.
Remuneration:
Compensation package commensurate with qualification and experience within a designated salary scale.
