Background:

The Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) is a statutory organization established in 1996 as a Trust Fund under the Protected Areas Conservation Trust Act, Chapter 218 of the Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2020. PACT contributes to the financing, sourced nationally and internationally, of the Belize National Protected Areas System – a system that is managed by Government Agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations, and Community Based Organizations.

Position Description:

The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Protected Areas Conservation Trust. She/he is responsible for steering the Trust’s strategic direction and managing its operations and administration. Under the Board’s guidance, this role involves crafting and executing the strategic vision, ensuring accountability for its implementation and the achievement of desired outcomes. The Executive Director leads with a commitment to conservation, sustainable finance, fostering strategic partnerships, and driving innovation to meet national and global environmental and sustainable development goals. This pivotal position demands a leader adept in governance, stakeholder management, advocacy, policy development and resource mobilization with a focus on conservation and climate finance opportunities.  The Executive Director is also expected to uphold the principles of integrity, transparency, and fiscal prudence. As the primary interface with the Board, the Executive Director ensures effective governance and operational excellence, positioning the Trust as a leader in conservation and climate financing efforts.

Core Competency Requirements:

      • Master’s Degree or higher (preferred) in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, Natural Resources Economics, Green Finance, or related field.
      • Qualification and/or Certification in relevant disciplines is an asset.
      • A minimum of seven (7) years of related management/leadership experience – executive leadership and/or leadership in a similar type of organization is preferred.
      • At least five (5) years of professional experience in finance, conservation finance or development finance.
      • Proven experience in resource mobilization and/or fund-raising is required.

Remuneration:

Compensation package commensurate with qualification and experience within a designated salary scale.
