The goal of this Enhanced Direct Access project is to improve Belize’s long-term capacity to protect communities from climate threats posed by drought, unpredictable water availability, floods, and improper wildfire management.  The project is structured around five key components, each designed to create a sustainable framework for climate adaptation:

  1. Safeguarding forest and water resources through strategic protection and restoration solutions.
  2. Combating wildfires through adaptive management.
  3. Creating opportunities to support alternative livelihoods.
  4. Building national capacity to access adaptation finance.
  5. Community disaster risk management.

These five components will directly impact Belizean communities, regions, and populations that have been affected by climate change and variability or that have been identified and recognized as being at risk to climate events and extreme weather variations.  Thus, the benefits of the project will be accessible to communities and organizations that can develop and implement interventions that contribute to the goal of the project and the outcomes of the Adaptation Fund.

The project will be implemented by PACT via the financing of sub-projects designed and executed by various partners working on all five components.
